Meet Journee and Carter!
Carter is an energetic and adventurous little boy whose view of the world—and loving relationship with his big sister—are at the heart of My Sister Has Super Powers! Journee, his amazing big sister, is a talented and inspiring little girl with autism whose unique qualities look a lot like SUPER POWERS through the eyes of her little brother.
Created as a McFadden family project, My Sister Has Super Powers! was written by their dad, Rodney, and illustrated by their mom, Denys. Through colorful illustrations and a story inspired by their family’s own experiences, the book gives young readers a glimpse into everyday life with a loved one with special needs while encouraging understanding, empathy, acceptance, and appreciation for the qualities that make every child wonderfully unique.
The Author
The son of educational entrepreneurs, author and father Rodney McFadden developed a love for learning and a gift for encouraging others from an early age. A South Carolina native, Rodney has dedicated his life to serving others through his many roles as an educator, athlete, coach, motivational speaker, musician, author, and pastor. Through each opportunity, he strives to use his gifts with purpose while giving credit to God and his family for the journey that has shaped him.
Inspired by the brilliance he saw in his children, Journee and Carter, Rodney wanted to share a simple but powerful truth: every child has been uniquely gifted by their Creator with qualities worth recognizing, celebrating, and nurturing. That message became the heart of My Sister Has Super Powers!
Written in rhyming verse, the story supports literacy in young and developing readers while creating an engaging rhythm for young listeners. Rodney's words were brought to life through illustrations by his wife, Denys, making the book a true family project.
Rodney hopes to continue sharing messages that encourage children and families while creating new adventures inspired by his “Dynamic Duo,” Journee and Carter.
